We will have a small exhibition of Sashiko Works by Keiko & members of “Unshinka

We will have a small exhibition of Sashiko Works by Keiko & members of “Unshinkai (Atsushi’s Sashiko students → Sashioko friends in Japan)” in November. It will happen in a cute & Japanese-like Cafe/Gallery (Genki Gallery) in Tokyo’s Old Town – Tsukishima. As Keiko doesn’t open her studio to the public regularly, it is a rare opportunity for anyone to meet her, touch & feel our Sashiko. Yes, a visitor can touch the Sashiko Items.

Some say our Sashiko is “Traditional” – maybe so, especially when we look at just the outlook. We also think, though, that we keep trying new ideas. The continuous challenges of Unshinkai Project – where many Sashiko Artisans join to make one single piece of Art – is something interesting as Sashiko is often described (and it is) as a work in solitude. A stitcher dive into the time alone although if they are stitching in a group of people – and each person makes its own Sashiko. Combining those as one piece has been an interesting trial for us to enjoy Sashiko. I will talk about this exhibition more in Live Streaming & SNS later on as November gets Closer.

やっと今年の刺し子展示会のチラシが完成しました（仕事を止めてたのは私です）。2024年も月島の元氣カフェさんにお世話になります。今年は2Fのギャラリー部分をお借りします。恵子さんと、またこれまでにご縁を頂いた運針会の皆様が参加下さった「運針会プロジェクト」と名付け野良着やタペストリー等、伝統的かもしれないけれど斬新だなぁという作品をご紹介できればと思っています。

ゆっくり作品を見て頂くことを優先的に…と考えて、今回はワークショップは開催しない予定です。運針会でご縁を頂いた方がワークショップを開催して下さっているのもあるし、一番大切なのは「何をしているか」を知って、見て頂けることかなと思っています。SNSでも配信でもお伝えしたいことは言葉にしているつもりなのですが、刺し子は「触れる」と言葉よりも視覚情報よりも、もっともっと何かが伝わるんじゃないかと思っています。今回の展示会も作品に触れて頂けます。恵子さんは常に在廊する予定なので、是非色々お話をして頂けたら。物販もします。材料や道具だけでなくオリジナルのキット等も販売する予定なので、その場で恵子さんに質問しながら刺し子をしてもらうのもアリかな…なんて楽しく想像しています（場所に限りがあるので、必ずできるというお約束はできませんが…）。是非、私達の刺し子を実際に見て、触れて頂けたら幸いです。
