The Jacket I featured on the flier for our Sashiko Exhibition in 2024 is done by Keiko & Unshinkai (A group of our Sashiko Students → Sashiko Friends). With an analogy of Orchestra, Keiko is a conductor, and many Sashiko Artisans we work togethers play the instruments – everyone is an important part of the Jacket. It is the Sashiko Jacket made throughout 2023 & 2024.
☆
Occasionally, especially when Sashiko is introduced in English, they describe Sashiko Jackets as Authentic Surviving Examples. It is true that we have quite many Surviving Examples to tell us stories & the beauty of Sashiko – but We as Sashiko Artisans are still surviving, too. We can make this type of Sashiko Items, which may be different from Surviving Examples but equally inspiring and telling the different stories.
☆
I am & we are still alive. Many of my friends practice Sashiko at the level of so-called “masters” (although they wouldn’t admit the compliment). Please do not make Sashiko as the past, yet. It is important to learn from the old items. It is precious to purchase antique items and cherish them. However, please know that the culture is still on-going, and we are making it today.
☆
Your acknowledgement, and willingness to learn from someone who can make this type of Sashiko will be the great support for passing down the culture. Sashiko is more than technique – and I keep explaining it. Sashiko Live on Youtube is tonight on Thursday at 9 pm EST.

Occasionally, I come across a discussion on SNS about “Which side do we stitch Sashiko? (Stitching on Back/Wrong side or not)”. As you may know, in most Sashiko projects, we stitch while looking at the backside of the fabric. That’s 99% of my Live Streaming. We look at the front…

In the QuiltCon Lecture, I received an important question. [What is the line (boundary) between appropriation & appreciation (respect)?]. My answer was “acknowledgement (of the Stories behind)” as always. At the same time, after the lecture, I realized I could add one more word. If you follow this account for…

This is one of the popular Japanese geometric pattern, Seigaiha (Seikaiha). One of my projects in 2018 is to introduce some of these Japanese geometric patterns. 3 ready so I will start introducing them on my web & Youtube accordingly. ★ 2018-07-30 16:35:19 Source
