Another dream came true. In 2023, I was offered the 1st Sashiko Japan Tour. It says “Tour” – but it is more like a retreat in Japan, enjoying a series of workshops with many Japanese Sashiko Artisans. Among many reasons to organize, one big reason to do so is to introduce Japanese Sashiko Artisans to my students (friends), and my Sashiko friends to other Sashiko students (friends) I got in Japan. Thanks to @abidwe_komorebi & their hard work, 3 Sashiko Artists I introduced in Japan and a wonderful Lithuanian textile Artist, Virginija Stigaite, collaborated on the Textile Art.
☆
As a part of New York Textile Month, the collaboration Art will be exhibited in an event offered by @lspace.gallery . The exhibition is produced and curated by Sąna Gous, with support from Lili Almog at L’SPACE Gallery, on view from September 25th through October 1st, 2024. Opening reception on September 26th, 2024, 4 – 7 pm.
☆
I am not well educated in “Art”. I have no idea how Art goes. However, I believe this is a type of Sashiko elevated to the Art format. 3 Japanese Sashiko Artists took a different approach on the beautiful textile made in a Lithuanian Textile Tradition by Virginija. I speak for the importance of Cultural Sustainability – but it doesn’t mean the exclusion… in fact, it is the inclusion to bridge many cultures. We can start learning the difference so that Art can represent cross-cultural approaches. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to visit NYC for this visit – but if you are nearby, please enjoy this exhibit.

Remember the “incredible” Boro we shared a month ago…? Keiko is strongly inspred by the Boro and has been working on that… Wow. They aren’t done yet. However, it has something like Power. I cannot wait to see the result. 2018-02-05 00:59:11 Source

[Warp and Weft] – in Japanese, [Tateito & Yokoito]. It is common sense to fabric lovers that fabrics are woven with Warp and Weft. Warp itself won’t make it fabric, and vice versa. Our days are similar, in my understanding, so is culture. ☆ An example. Let’s say that culture…

Offering a lecture in the second language is challenging. Plus, since the topic is intercultural, the word choice becomes very important. I am aware that the people only listen to what they want to listen to. However, it doesn’t mean that I don’t need to practice to be better at…
