“I am the past. You are the future”. ☆

In while workshop, when I talk to some quilters, this phrase came out naturally. I am the past. You are the future. I do NOT mean that I am old-dated or unimportant. The past is the foundation of the future. As I keep saying, I encourage people to call their stitching Sashiko as long as they respect the tradition – the tradition is the “past”. ☆

I met a lot of “futures” in these 4 days. I am in the box of “Sashiko”. I keep speaking out for Sashiko. Someone gotta do that, right? Don’t be scared. However, please keep learning so I would do the same. One culture can be as deep as generations of someone’s life. Books may not be “whole” enough to understand one culture. I enjoyed very much, and seeing many rising stars. Hope to come back sometime soon. ☆ – – – ☆

Some of Sashiko samples showing in the Sashiko Workshop in NYC. I am happy that the paritcipants enjoy these and get inspired. Well. I received a lot of requests. I will accomplish them one by one 🙂 ワークショップの週末 in NYC。 2018-01-13 19:17:43 Source

How do we measure the success in “preserving the culture”? What does it take to saying “we preserved the culture”? This has been a long-lasting question. I am not 100% sure what I need to do to preserve the culture… However, a fortunate opportunity to spend time with Makoto-san in…

One news delivered me a mixed feeling – sad, empathy, and encouragement. One of the groups of artisans we had built a good relationship decided to go “part-time” from “full-time”. They will still take our orders, and nothing will dramatically change, but I cannot stop thinking about the reason behind…
