We use(d) many types of Geometric Patterns in Sashiko Stitching. There are reasons why we used the Geometric Patterns, and reasons become stories as we interpret. Stories create “meaning”. In the meaning, we sometimes can find a form of praying – one reason I enjoy Geometric Pattern & one definition of Sashiko I share: “Pray in Stitching”. (Please be advised there is no such a thing as “Sashiko Patterns”. If you think of some specific “Sashiko Patterns”, they are just “Geometric Patterns” in Japan – or anywhere for that matter).
☆
Shippou is one of my favorite pattern – We call the circle “En (円)”, and the same sound & different character of “En (縁)” means roughly “Bond with others” (En as Bond is one of the most difficult Japanese to translate into English in my opinion as “Ibasho” can be the “En” as well). I share Sashiko Stories so that we can appreciate the connection, or similar value, or simply friendship. In order to emphasize the “Connection/Bond” in Sashiko, I started working on the Denim & Shippou – I don’t know how many Denims I can stitch. You may find me stitching in one of the Live Streaming. I need to speak up. I have a responsibility to share the stories. However, I would like to keep stitching because the value of our stories exist in Sashiko itself. I hope you can join the Live Session sharing the same time & place (Ibasho) – while stitching the patterns with “praying”.

It is my pleasure to talk about Sashiko after they learn the “Unshin” – how to move the needle in Sashiko – from me. I teach both in Japanese and English, and interestingly, the changes within them are pretty similar. They will find their own Sashiko, soon or later, and…

Which Sashiko thread is good? What type of thread should I use Sashiko? Even before that, what is the difference between Sashiko thread and others? ☆ I receive many questions about Sashiko thread (and the thread we use for Sashiko). The answer is quite simple: Try to find the “stories”…
