We are a group of Sashiko Artisans – and it is our pride that we can keep offering the “New” items with quality materials & our own hand-stitching. Sashiko Furoshiki is popular in the vintage market. As a Boro (to be) piece, or as a beautiful Sashiko stitched item, I see several vintage Japanese dealers selling Furoshiki. A big difference between dealers & us is that we can make the new one – (hopefully) repeatedly. With the quality of fabric & thread, the item can last long years, and it will be “Vintage” at some point with adding their own stories. There is nothing wrong with appreciating the old & vintage items. At the same time, please know that there are still artisans who can make this happen – Sashiko is not past yet.

What is Furoshiki? Why is this design popular in Furoshiki? Some may wonder, “What is Sashiko after all?”. There isn’t really a simple straight answer because it carries Japanese Ordinary. However, we try to share the frame of what Sashiko is for us by sharing stories. Please check @SashikoStory for more information – for stories of Furoshiki as well.

2022年、今年作った刺し子風呂敷です。近年顕著になったのですが、FUROSHIKIとSASHIKOが英語圏で人気になり、昔の風呂敷に良い値段がつくようになり、その古布となった風呂敷の販売ページを目にすることも増えてきました。昔の布が大切にされることは素晴らしいことなのですが、同時に「刺し子風呂敷は現代でも作れる」ことは、刺し子を仕事としている私等の存在意義でもあるのです。なので、作りました（笑）

日本国内向けの商品ではないのですが、特注という形で作ることは可能です（特注でも英語圏での値段よりは安くできます）。刺し子の本質は「使うこと（用いて即ち美しい）」にあると思っていて、使うのが不安になる高価な古布よりも、ガッツリ使って貰える刺し子風呂敷を提案していけたらなぁと思うのです。特注等の問い合わせは@SashikoStory のDMに頂けるとお返事が早くできると思います。
