I haven’t been stitching much… Sashiko is easy to get started. What we need is a thimble, needle, thread, and fabric after all. However, it is a bit of chaos to homeschool a 5 years old girl while my cat tries to jump on the thread. So, instead, when I…

I love Cherry Blossom – as I named my cat the name for it, “Sakura (桜)”. In PA, the Spring Wind can be quite strong. Therefore, the full blossom of Sakura is almost momentally, for a few days of blessing for me in Spring. ☆ The beauty in “Moment” (short…

In this extraordinary (pandemic), ”Pray (only itself)” won’t change a reality. We need to “Stay (still)” rather than “Pray”. However, without “Pray”, nothing can be restarted. All of the changes start from our “praying (for the new ordinary)”. ☆ One of the core messages I would like to “tell” to…

☆ – – – ☆ I would never say my hand is beautiful from a cosmetic perspective. I use & depends on my hand so heavily, in Sashiko, in house work, and pretty much everything. I prefer the bare hand so I can “feel”….

In Sashiko workshop & Online Class, many ask me “is it good stitching?”. I understand that it is a very natural question in learning something new – to be better. However, my attention goes to how you enjoy the stitching itself. Even stitches, beautiful stitches, accuracy, the results are of…

As you may know already, this account is a duo of a mother & her son. Atsushi tells a story while stitching, and Keiko does whatever she feels like in Sashiko. I am left brain, Keiko is right brain. She is a nightmare for me as a mother, but a…

atsushijp, 2020年3月13日

In the past, people only could pray when an outbreak of infectious disease occurred. Today, we have a choice to overcome. I humbly follow the expert decision – the US is in National Emergency – we should do all of the precautionary measures to protect us. No panic is necessary…

I spend a good Saturday morning typing in Japanese about the “Sashiko & the Japanese philosophy of praying”, which explain what I would like to tell throughout Sashiko. I won’t be able to translate what I wrote into English well, so I will write another blog with this topic. The…

atsushijp, 2018年9月10日

One of a few Keiko’s art pieces (Tapestry). Keiko worked on this Sashiko Stitching while I (Atsushi) was in a collage far from Japan (MI). Since I wasn’t very strong, tend to get flue or sick easily, whenever Keiko received a message that I was sick, she prayed and stitched….
