atsushijp, 2020年8月7日

In my activities of sharing Sashiko, I try to be as “difficult” as possible, especially on SNS where people can freely be “free” without any commitment. This “difficult” attitude is not the ideal, especially in this strange time. If my goal is to upgrade my dinner, then I should be as “easy-going” as possible. I learned that “ideal doesn’t bring us a tasty loaf of bread”. However, I feel like a proverb about an old Samurai – “武士は食わねど高楊枝(A samurai pretends he has eaten well with showing a toothpick, even when he has no food.)” I think I am trying to communicate something more important than a fancy supper.
☆
Yet, regardless of my “ideal”, I am a human with emotion. I often wonder if I am doing “okay”. I really don’t know if I will be okay – Sashiko isn’t something I can lean on as “a solid bright future” like some other industry. It may be better off if I compromise and become a “business person”. In that kind of “wondering, ”Keiko’s words in Sashiko – “We are just a Sashiko practitioner. We can only stitch.” – exist in my deep philosophy. It encourage me to stitch and mend as the picture shows – as if we live in the moment with everything we can look for.

I appreciate another great opportunity to share the Sashiko we have been practicing. The pandemic somewhat forced us (craft/art instructors) to shift to Online. I have spent quite a lot of time & investment to prepare the Online Sashiko Class, and I am now confident that I can offer the…

[Dirty Hands, Clean Heat]… I received a comment like this in the previous post (on FB). This comment “could” upset me before 2012… but now, I smile when I see it. Yes, it is dirty, and I am proud of it. No hands are “clean” in my memories. All of…

Mending Sunday. (Stitching) Speed isn’t really the priority for me. However, it is nice that it would take only 3~4 hours to enjoy minor mending for tomorrow’s denim. There are so many approaches to Mending & Sashiko… among those, with learning the “Form”, when I accept the possibility of a…

Have you considered writing a book? It would be lovely to have a voice of authenticity among the stacks of books that include sashiko written by those who weren’t raised in it.
