This is the “Front – finished side” of Asanoha Sashiko that I introduced yesterday. It is all about preference again. ☆
I believe it is “actual piece (& a process of making)” that pass down the culture. However, in this society, the person with large voice gets more attention and sometimes it doesn’t go with the truth. My job is to bring up some of the Sashiko piece we are proud of to the surface of its movement. I even feel this is the reason why I decided to study in the US for college (It isn’t easy for a native Japanese to do so). Slowly, Upcyecle Stitches is selling our hand-stitched Sashiko fabric. Please check our website and/or Instagram @upcyclestitches. All hand-stitched with caring. I hope you can feel the power of it. (The fabric on the photo will be listed sometimes this weekend or next week.) ☆

This summer, I am taking more time to face my feelings while stitching. I described my feeling now as “Anger” – and I have been thinking why I feel angry. I am angry because I have hope – when I am in total despair, I will be drained and focus…

One of the strong wishes I have in sharing Stories here is to remind of the power of imagination. “Reading between lines” is critical to understanding Japanese culture. Imagination helps us to read between lines. So, try to read what is not “written”, instead of reacting to what you think…

You may like this project I just started more than our usual Sashiko. Probably surprising to some of you, who recently encountered Sashiko, I wouldn’t consider this Sashiko much. I don’t mind someone calling this type of denim “Sashiko” when they try to acknowledge Stories behind Sashiko… but, I wouldn’t…
