Sashiko is well-known for the beauty of “imperfection”. However, making stitches uneven intentionally is different story. We try our best to make it perfect, yet we cannot make the stitches perfect because we are a human (we aren’t the God and almighty). Although I understand that the trend of “imperfection” prefer “obvious hand-stitching”, I hope we can respect the craftsmanship of making it as “perfectly even” as possible. After all, what we do Sashiko on will be never perfect because they are all done by hands. (Long story short, please do not ask to make the stitches more uneven to make it more “handmade” like. It is more difficult for us to make it uneven, and again, Sashiko isn’t about making one “ideal” stitch.)

お仕事（コラボ）のお話も頂くことが増えてきて。前職時代から、コラボ（というか下請け）の話は良く頂いていたのですが、だいたい納期とかクライアントの希望とかが、私達の「こだわり」に一致せずに形になってきませんでした。今日はそんなお話。

海外のお客様の中には「揃っていない針目が良い」という方がいらっしゃいます。個人的な好みは揃っている針目なので、いつも不思議だなぁとは思うのですが、揃っていない針目の方が襤褸っぽく見えたりするのかもしれません。刺し子の美は、完璧ではない針目から来る美だとは僕も承知しています。ただ、「針目を意図的に揃えない」という刺し子は、基本お受けしませんし、その場でできる限りの説明をします。人間であるから完璧ではない美であって、最初から完璧を求めないものは、美ではないのではないか……と。それぞれの刺し手によって、針目が揃わないのは良いんです。その時の気分で針目は変わってきますし。ただ、「こうあるべき」という結果ありきの針目の刺し子はどうも好きになれないし、魅力も感じない。こんなこと言ってるから拡大しないと思ったこともありますが、やっぱり事業拡大よりも「心」。こだわりは持ち続けようと思うのです。
