Communication (sharing the culture) is quite difficult. Those whom I would like to tell “Thank you for supporting Sashiko”, they often apologize (share their worries) to me for their possible Cultural Appropriation. They have been reading the posts here. I want them to know they are not the reason I speak up (If everyone is like them, I would be just sharing the beautiful photos as I used to).

Those whom I would like to tell “Enough is enough. Stop twisting the culture”, they consider my words come from “a choice”, not “a pain” (They think I am choosing to feel the pain by not taking it easy). There are many reasons that I write some unpleasant posts. I wish I wouldn’t need to, but enough is enough.

I feel the more I share about Japanese Sashiko, the more vivid the people who are interested in Sashiko in English polarized into 2 groups – (1 ) the people who try to learn the Japaneseness behind the word respectfully, and (2) the people who think it is a “choice” to use a foreign word for their “whatever” convenience & fun. Although this “polarisation” is not the ideal phenomenon, it is better than seeing Sashiko to be repainted completely differently. There is no option for me to give up my own identity. I am realizing the clear boundary of “Cultural Appropriation” and “Cultural Appreciation”. The Youtube “Sashiko Talk” will be a great platform to discuss these issues. 今では少なくなりましたが、以前は「たかが刺し子にそんな熱くなるなよ（怒るなよ）」って英語で諌められてました。今考えると、とんでもなく酷い言葉だったんだなと思います。当事者じゃない第三者から痛みを定義されることほど苦しい事はありません。極端な例ですが、イジメる側がイジメられる側に「痛くない。苦しくない。そんな大事にするな。」と言っているのと一緒です。一番怖いのは、イジメをしている人が、「イジメている」と認識していない場合です。今の英語圏での刺し子は、「無関心（無意識）からの大きな変化」を経験しています。変化は良いんです。ただ、そこは意識的且つ意図的であって欲しいんですよね。無知にこれまでの智慧を塗り替えられるとか嫌だもの。
