All hand stitched on one layer after another. Each stitch are as precise one human can comfortably achieve. Beauty in imperfection yet longing to be better (as close to the perfect). Does it seem a preposterous proces to stitch through so many layers for this size of the Jacket? In this society, where productivity comes first, Sashiko may be an insane amount of work to do. However, we as humans used to do the similar stitching regardless of the culture or location – hand-stitching for survival. We just forget it.
☆
We really do not suffer in Sashiko. Stitching itself is very simple yet deep. The preposterous long process is actually fun part of stitching when we feel the rhythm in stitching. We feel, and some of our students share the same feeling, that it is somewhat sad to complete one project because it means the end of stitching (for that particular project). Then, we look for another project to stitch. Another reason we share the Sashiko as a process, more than the result. ☆

We would say that we have accomplished the Natural Indigo Dye with Sukumo (Japanese traditional method). Some tiny parcels of Indigo Dye got stuck into the softly twisted Sashiko thread. However, we decided to introduce them because the parcels can be removed when we use the thread in Sashiko stitching….

Great success, the Sashiko workshop in my city, Lewisburg, PA. Again, I forgot to take the photos of the workshop… I always focus on talking about Sashiko & sharing the technique, and forget the photos of everyone together. ☆ “It is so fun & relaxing to do hand-stitching.” The best…

I introduced the special combination of valuable vintage fabric and Hitomezashi with the natural dye Sashiko thread. I found a photo of the bag we made in the past. Because of its value, the bag shocked me how Keiko could stitch on the vintage Oshima silk, but it is all…
