Once, the Japanese said, if a person had a small fabric swatch, the size big enough to wrap 3 soy beans, she/he gotta keep it since it may be used in the future mending project. This “Mottainai = too good to waste” culture is the fundamental of Boro and Sashiko.

It isn’t quite Boro (yet). However, we respect this Japanese mindset and challange to patchwork everything we love. The core of our activities is the appreciation to the fabric (what we have.)

恵子さんの新作の進捗です。
その昔、貧しい地方の日本人は「大豆を3粒包める大きさの布は捨てず、補修に使いなさい」と教えられていたそう。私達は、その「もったいない = 捨てるには良い素材すぎる」をできるだけ再現しようとして、布はあまり捨てないようにしています。小さい布、補修に使えないものも、できるだけパッチワークにして作品の一部として。この布は襤褸ではないですが、襤褸の起源の一部として、今後も大切にしていきたい考え方です。
