I often say, “please spend some time researching before asking a question.” There is a reason behind my saying. A “quick information” may tell you what it is – but “what it is” can be someone’s interpretation. A consideration in researching will bring you “wisdom” that creates your own understanding. Many people misunderstand me that I had a comprehensive education in Sashiko from my family background. No. No one had “taught” me Sashiko. I learned by “observing” it. This is how many Japanese craftsmanship has been passed down. Learning by observation is not efficient. Often, it causes a detour by misunderstanding. One may never reach the “core” after spending decades. It can take years of wasting time to fully get it. In this society where quick and instant gratification (IG) dominate the market, I need to balance what I do. Over the Internet, anyone can say anything without learning. One can be a Sashiko teacher by reading one article. Popularity defines what is genuine because the followers also ask for quickness & I.G.. A louder voice offering what the market demands may overwrite a genuine, silent voice. (Well, we may call it capitalism…). A culture may be repainted over this quick movement. And therefore, I established the workshop/Online Class with investing my life. ☆

We are experiencing a big paradigm shift now. Don’t let others create you by “quick” answers. I am not offering the “quick Sashiko” because Sashiko’s core exists in opposite. Read before ask. Stitch with your hands before wondering with your brain. Avoid using “freedome” or “Art” as an excuse, then learn, please. ☆ – – – ☆

If I were to have 3 days to share Sashiko – and how to apply Sashiko to their project, I thought I would have more time to take photos in the workshop. The answer is, nah… I realize I don’t have any photos from the workshop after the workshop. I…

Sashiko was a form of hand-stitching developed in a harsh condition with limited resources. So, when we talk about “Principal within Original”, it is “for someone we care”, instead of for ones to be special, express their aesthetics, or showcasing their skills. It is more personal, yet the unit is…

The 3rd day. I completed the main frame of the Sashiko x Denim. The estimate of 20 hours for one-leg + mending was somewhat accurate. After doing another 100 of Sashiko x Denim, I probably can be 100% confidence in what I am doing 😀 ☆ The pattern, Shippou, helpmed…

わかります、no one wants to gain wisdom through experience anymore. This new way was even echoed in the first Disney Star Wars movie . What do you do when that knowledge bank of people are gone ? This is the worry .

I agree with your words very much, but if I’ve learned something through the years is that life has always a way of adjusting itself. It doesnt matter if you don’t want to learn, it will make you learn and you will fall as many times as you need to. I also feel that despitw the ‘trends’ the voices that remain are the ones with honesty. It may be a longer road than just following a trend, but at the end is more rewarding and is important to remember to do things for ourselves first. The first ones to enjoy the hands on wisdom we learn is ourselves 🙂 love your work and your words! ❤️

What you say relates to my experience of natural dyeing. I am completely self taught and have learned through research and experiments which plants give colour that lasts.

This is so beautifully honest and so is the sashiko.
