Our Sashiko Story to Your Sashiko Journey

Keiko and I try to make a living by Sashiko. Therefore, most of the Sashiko item

atsushijp, 2020年9月17日

Keiko and I try to make a living by Sashiko. Therefore, most of the Sashiko items we share are for sale. Jackets, Bags, pieces of fabric with Sashiko, 90% of the items have a price tag (or we can put the price on it). I had prioritized my work on offering Sashiko supplies on busy days (under Covid-19 and stay-at-home father). When I have more time, I will introduce each piece with sizing, pricing, and with more photos.

☆

For jackets, we can make only a few of these every year. Every stitch is hand-stitched. Thanks to many customers, most of the jackets/bags are sold. However, since every jacket is hand-made, we can make a similar one (if it is made with vintage fabrics, then we will try our best to make it “similar”). I am happy to have your inquiry for the estimate & detail designing. We do work for “custom tailored Jacket/bag” and commission as well (Stitching on the denim is temporary unavailable).

☆

I welcome an inquiry about pricing and availability. However, please be serious & considerate when you contact me. Every stitch is hand-stitched. We use the best materials available – including Natural Dye. It takes months to make one piece. Each Jacket is one of a kind. A Sashiko jacket will not have a price tag of a mass-produced jacket. Based on work, more than 500 (or more) hours will be spent into one jacket. An inquiry expecting a jacket to be a few hundreds usd is pretty sad… So your understanding is much appreciated before sending me an inquiry. (The Jacket on the photo is about $3,000 USD with about 8 months of production time).

I put an important message in the QuiltCon 2024 lecture. Some time ago, I learned that there are resources encouraging you to enjoy Imperfection in Sashiko & Boro. Please don’t follow the saying “Happy Imperfection” in Sashiko. It is perfectly fine to actually embrace the imperfection in the process of…

One of our main activities is “recreate” Boro (襤褸)fabric with Sashiko stitching. The authentic Boro pieces are almost impossible to recreate because the beauty is made by the flow of time over many years. Boro is not a Japanese word for patching or mending. The word is from a type…

Some may reach to this account to get a quick answer to “What is Sashiko?”. Unfortunately, there isn’t a single line to fulfill that question. Instead, I share everything I have – so that we can reach “mutual understanding” together. Please bear with me for my sharing process & keep…

And such a beautiful jacket it is! Hope to one day be able to stitch well enough to aspire to making something like it. Or become rich, haha. But truly, just seeing work like this makes the day better.
