Once again, here is my motivation of sharing the Sashiko with focusing on the process as “caring others” and “appreciation to what we have.” It is to leave something for my daughter. I live if I were to die tomorrow. I hope, after I am gone, someone who may have read our writing, could be a help to her when she needs one. ☆
I believe (hope) the nature of human being is “Kindness” instead of “Greed”. Human being kept the beautiful chain of kindness, and I would like to leave the chain to her, hopefully with her father’s pride in what he tried to do. In the Japanese history with people practiced Sashiko, I can feel they cared others before themselves – Kindness instead of Greed.

I am a father, not a saint. It is my responsibility to provide her. So, money is important. However, I hope, by now, you would understand my goal is not to be “Rich” or “Authority” by/in Sashiko. I was once questioned for bing the authority. Many ask us if we have a studio. We don’t even have our own “space” to focus on Sashiko – simply because we don’t need it (of course, it would be nice to have a nice looking studio and space for Sashiko, but not necessary as of now). I know some may find this writing phony. I focused on the money more than anything before my father’s death. However, one day, I hope I can show what I am writing about here, in action – the words do not contain the whole of the truth.

「刺し子は商売には向いていない（刺し子だけでの生活は難しい）」とあちこちで言いながらも、それでも刺し子を続けているのには理由があります。「恵子さんの刺し子を応援したい」という出発点に加えて、今は「娘に、父親が何を感じ、どう生きたかを残したい」という強い願いです。子育て専業主夫時代には日本文化をなんとか娘に手渡そうと頑張ったのですが、そこはやっぱり母親強し。結局日本文化は三番目（1.米国 / 2.イスラエル）になりそうです。日本語ができないまま大人になる可能性もあって、その時に「あれ？親父って何してたんだっけ？」という娘の疑問に、ある程度会話ができるものを残しておきたいなと思ったわけです。はい。完全に自己中心の理由です。（笑）

だからこそ、「刺し子の権威になりたがっている」とか「工房はどこ？（あたかもお金持ちのような感じに）」と聞かれると、「おぃおぃ」と思ってしまうわけです。人は見たいものを見て、聞きたいことを聞きます。でも、だからこそ、愚直に「刺し子とは」を語り、そして刺し続けていけたらと思うのです。
