A photo of “Boro-inspired” piece with many knots. Although I shared our “preference” of not using knots on our Sashiko project (on our website), there is no problem in using knots. In fact, some pieces would require the knots to be there.
☆
When we make “Boro & Boro to be fabric”, the knots are optional. We can use it, and we don’t have to use it. 「Boro with many layers of patching after using and stitching over time」wouldn’t require many knots. However, 「Boro inspired fabric with patching “already-damaged” vintage fabric」 would require the knots to keep the fabrics together. In those cases, we try to make “larger” size of knots because the small & tight knots could damage the fragile, already damaged vintage fabric. Again, it is all about preference. However, there are many stories behind “why” in those preference. ☆

Hours of stitching. I am not talking about hundreds of hours of stitching. Life-length of stitching, 10 thousands, 20 thousands or even more. Some, who have “choices”, criticize it as a waste of time. Even to my face, one commented on Youtube that I should get a real “job”. We…

We are proud of being “makers”. We are Artisans who happen to teach. We are Creators who decided to sell what they use. Yes, “business” is very important to sustain the practice of Sashiko. However, money is not the purpose. Money is just a means to make “Sustainable Sashiko” happen….

I am an idealist. Since I married another idealist, I don’t really see “idealism” in myself every day & I have to balance it to keep our family together, but I am very much so. I started teaching Sashiko on Youtube for free. I stopped it because some “abuse” the…
