Well… I “re-watched” the Japanese Live streming of Denim Re-patching. Such a “UNORGANIZED” project it is.
★
The standard way to make Denim Repatched would be (1) Design and make a plan (2) measuring the length of fabric and cut (3) patch as the plan indicate. I didn’t follow any of these. I just stitched as I felt like. It isn’t ideal, but hey, this “may” be following what some of the Japanese were doing to make Boro.
★
The mssage I would like to share throughout Sashiko is here. “Do not judge others, especially yourself”. It is, of course, very important to make nice, tidy, beautiful Sashiko piece. At the same time, there is NOTHING WRONG making a messy, rough stitching. I want to enjoy the stitching as a process, and I want you to enjoy the beauty of “hand-stitching.” You can watch the whole process on Youtube (although I am speaking in Japanese non-stop. I hope I will have some time to add English narration.)
★

“I wish I had a day with no errands to run so that I can just keep enjoying Sashiko stitching.” Yesterday, June 4th was the day for me to try that. 24 hours of stitching – continuously. ☆ It was a crazy experience. I enjoyed the time of stitching. At…

Boro. We “Make” Boro piece by patching and repairing the small Japanese vintage fabric, which can be in a trash bin because they are too small. The vintage fabric gets so small after washing them. We sometimes call it “fresh Boro” since it doesn’t smell or dirty ★ There are…

A disciple visited a Zen Master for learning. While he was asking for master’s wisdom, the master kept pouring tea into his cup. The master kept pouring, and the tea overflow then wet the floor. Yet, the master doesn’t stop. The disciple said, “Master, the cup is full. It is…

I love this attitude. Being a rather “clean” stitcher with a tendency to overthink pieces, I really admire craftspeople who can do and tolerate both ways of working and thinking!
