Do you believe what you do not see in your eyes? ☆
Sashiko is a form of stitching, so yes, the result is important. The “beauty” to pleasure our eyes can be a great privilage of Sashiko. However, for me, Sashiko is more than what we can see – more than design, more than accuracy of stitching.
☆
Well, I am not only talking about spiritualiry or Japanese Animism. We have so many “waves” that we do not see in our lives – WiFi, UV. We can only see a part of this world. Another reason I keep sharing the Sashiko we practice. So, What do you “_______” it in the photo? ☆

「目に見えるものだけが全てなの?(Do you ____ it?」

As I share my Sashiko practice on Live (No editing to hide or exaggerate), I often receive some compliment on the speed of stitching on top of its evenness. Speed isn’t the priority as one’s stitching speed will increase when they learn the Kata – Form. I barely try to…

Is Sashiko an art…? This is my long-searching definition of Sashiko, but today, I kind of found a hint to my dream. This is a torn fabric from used underwear. From Mass Consumption to Some Consumption, then extreme is here. Yes, it is simply interesting. — 2018-06-05 15:41:02…

I teach Sashiko in Japanese as well. As much as I often say that I am not worried about Sashiko in Japan, there are some Japanese people who wish to learn the Sashiko we practice. I start the workshop by saying, “There is no such a thing as ‘Wrong’ Sashiko”…

Seeing is believing but what we train our eyes to see is revealed to us. When we look for precision we see errors, when we look for process we see passion.
