Frankly speaking, it is kind of unreasonable to ask a dyeing craftsman to dye the same color by hand & natural Dye. Keiko always say, “I will try my best, but I cannot promise it will be the same color”. On the other hand, as a person who try to provide the supply to the world, “the similar color is the minimum requirement to sell an item online”. Both true. It isn’t an argument of which is right or wrong. It is mother-and-son conversation after all. Keiko does so beautiful job on her Natural Dye Sashiko Thread.

Thanks to her continuous challenge & customers who purchase “no-numbered” Natural Dye Sashiko thread, we have been providing the similar color Sashiko thread by hand-dyed with Natural dyes. Indigo, madders, mountain peaches. Besides “Logwood”, which Keiko is getting better at, we are confident that we can deliver the similar color the customer expect. However, there is one exception, which is Kakishibu – Persimmon Tannin.

Kakishibu get color by Sunlight – UV. Therefore, the season, temperature, humidity, and pretty much everything else affect the color. We name them everytime we make a batch. It is very troublesome work, but it is too beautiful to not to share with the others. The Kakishibu dye we tried in 2017 is now completely sold out. We still have some dyed in 2018. 草木染め＆手染め。「同じ色を作れなんてそんな無茶苦茶な」という作家の声と、「でも販売する以上、ある程度似た色がないと困る」という販売者の声。両方的を得てるんです。刺し子と一緒でどっちが正しくて間違っているとかじゃない。役割が親子でわかれているので大変ですが（笑）藍染、その他草木染め、似た色を出せるようになってきました。ログウッドがまだ挑戦中ですが、それでも綺麗な色を継続して出せるようになっています。恵子さんには頭が上がりません。本当に凄い（それだけトライ＆エラーしてくれてるんです。無番糸を購入下さる方のおかげです）。そんな中、「柿渋染めの刺し子糸」だけは、毎回同じ色のお約束ができません。「日光発色」である柿渋は、季節、気温、湿度、太陽の出方、全てによって色が変化します。それこそ、同じ色を作ることが不可能な染め方なのかもしれません。「同じ色が作れないなら販売はしないようにしよう」というのが基本方針なのですが、この柿渋ばかりはそういうわけには行かない程綺麗なので、毎回の染めが上がる度に、番号を変えてご紹介しています。2017年に染めた糸、日本国内分はとうの前に、そしてアメリカ在庫分がつい先日売り切れました。半分以上自分たちで使っていますが、こうして完売できたこと、次への一歩になります。ご購入頂いた皆様、ありがとうございました。2018年に染めたものは、まだ多少の在庫はございます。売り切れる前に、是非お求め頂ければ幸いです。2019年も、また染められるように頑張ります！
