A Handmade good reflect who and how the creater is. Therefore, I always say, it isn’t about “Good or Bad” but it is all about the “preference”. They are all hand-stitched, and therefore they are so lovely to have. You may have a question to the Asanoha here. “Don’t you need to cross the line in a certain way?”. We believe, there is no such a thing as “rule” in Sashiko because it was so ordinary for the Japanese. You can prefer to follow the rule someone made, but I prefer to enjoy the stitching itself instead of worrying about if I am doing right or not.

Sashiko was so ordinary for the Japanese that they didn’t make much “structure.” It is like a cup of ice-cream. If someone said that we cannot “mix” one flavor, let’s say peanuts butter, because it is not following the rule, aren’t you gonna feel strange…? It is just an analogy, but that’s how I feel strange in reading about the rule in Sashiko. (By the way, I did NOT like the peanuts butter ice cream in the first year of college in MI, now I LOVE it… preference changes and it is perfectly okay.) ☆
手仕事には個性が出ます。なので作品は「良いか悪いか」ではなく「好みかどうか」で分類されると思うのです。同じ作品を作ろうと思っても、人によって全く違う表情が出てくるし、また同じ作り手でも、その日の気分で違ったりします。だから面白いんです。この針山も、それぞれが表情を持ってて面白いなあと。キット……というか、布と詰め物だけだけど、セットにしたら欲しい人いますか（もう既に福袋に入ってた人もいると思いますがw）？

Thanks for sharing! In Sweden a lot of people like sashiko a lot. Me to, I think it is beautiful. I have been puzzled by the ”rules” that you are supposed to follow, like how to do when the lines cross. One woman I met at a mending workshop even told me that it is important to make one stitch a time. So I am so grateful to read what you are saying, which pretty much is some of the things I have been thinking myself. ❤️🧵❤️

@evahanda.se Thank you for the comment from Sweden! People like “rules” especially in learning something new and teaching. I am okay with rules in Sashiko, but for me, Sashiko is more of free.
