Sashiko developed as the method to survive: to make fabric warmer and stronger. At the same time, I believe, the detail to exceed an expectation existed even in the poverty. 刺し子は、補強といった生活の中の目的が基本にあって生まれた文化ではあるとは思うのですが、同時に、どんな状況でも、「良い意味で予想を上回るプライド」的なものが、現代の襤褸的な素晴らしい作品になったのだと信じています。「神は細部に宿る」と言いますが、一針毎に何かを感じて思いを込めれば、そりゃ神も宿ると思うんですよね。
