The concept of “Value” is so interesting and fragile. When we look at “an item”

The concept of “Value” is so interesting and fragile. When we look at “an item” from the different angle, it will have the different (sometimes completely opposite) view. When I make Boro, I always wonder how the Japanese (in 300+ years ago) would think to the fact we are now “making” Boro instead of “ending up with” Boro.
☆
The word of Boro comes from the Mimetic word of “Boroboro” which express the situation of “Tattered”. Both Character, “襤” & “褸” means the rag & damaged fabric. Other words you may hear, “雑巾 (Zokin)” is merely a fabric for scrubbing (mainly floor or dirty area). The difference between Boro and Zokin would be the sense of purpose. Boro was the ultimate results of the fabric purpose the human assigned to a piece of fabric. Come to think of that, no wonder that the Boro is so beautiful. It is the accumulation of all the human activities in a small piece of fabric. ☆

I think (some) Boro is beautiful, but I am not a big fan of Boro in general. A reason I do not like Boro so much is that the value of Boro is very “personal”. In other words, the true value of Boro rather be defined by “Who makes it…

As I keep saying, I do not consider myself an artist (yet). I humbly accept someone’s admiration for me as an Artist. Well, if the one considers me the artist, please help me to be the one… I am still confused and hesitant. ☆…

One of my favorite Sashiko tool which I found in the US is the Crayola Washable Marker. I always use this marker when I work on the denim. It really washes off. ☆ I took my daughter to the Crayola Experience for a day. 3 years old maybe a bit…
