“Traditional” does not equal “Limitation” or “Denial of Creativity”. Tradition (should) alter its form over time. So, when I ask for “Respect to the Tradition”, I am asking more like respect to the stories behind. I am perfectly fine with anyone calling their stitching Sashiko as long as they respect to the Japanese origin of Sashiko.

I talked about “definition”, “pattern” and “tradition (cultural appropriation)” regarding Sashiko on Live streaming. Is the photo traditional or modern? It is not me who decides that.

Wow!
Love these so much 💙
Would the grandmothers want the tradition to sclerose? No they would want it to continue and therefore grow and remain alive.

@folkhaus_adventures I thought you would find this info about this art form as interesting as I did. Tho as you read the posts you can see they clearly don’t consider this art, but mending to cover shame. Very lovely work here. I know you’ve been doing the visible mending thing and I have a stack of jeans I was going to do that to as well. This is a fascinating glimpse inside the origins!
So beautiful, perfect
