This is Live Streaming “Thursday”… and unfortunately, my throat isn’t fully recovered yet. I will try my best to offer the Live Streaming tonight – but it may be shortened or canceled (if canceling, I will make a Story On IG & on Youtube).
☆
I came across a comment saying “I feel pain (in my eyes) when I do Sashiko”. It is one of the frequent questions I receive. Many have experienced the issues of pain while enjoying Sashiko. So, the comment itself is normal. What I find “sad” is the replies to the comment. They say: “Go to the doctor” and “Pain is Normal. Be Ready”. In Sashiko I practice (in Japan), there are Sashiko artisans who practice Sashiko for decades or close to a century. They carried the age-appropriate pain… but not to the significance that they need to stop stitching.
☆
Sashiko was developed as the “Ordinary Practice” – therefore, there is a “Form (KATA)” to minimize the pain. Once they learn the form, one can stitch for hours & days – even 24 hours non-stop (proven on my Youtube Channel). The sadness is that they justify pain & tell others to get over it without learning from the origin… I hope, some of those who read that comment will find us to learn the proper “Form (KATA)” to fully enjoy the Japanese Sashiko.
☆
“Form (KATA)” includes a philosophy to approach Sashiko – so I strongly recommend taking my Class, either Online or In-Person.

Patchworked some Kogire (small pieces of fabric). about 2-inch square each and patched, then Sashiko. It is a lot of work, but repurposing the possible wastes (too small fabric, even if they are Japanese Vintage fabric) can be pretty rewarding. Now, let’s use the sheet of fabric to some mending…?…

10 years ago, I never thought that I would be laughing like this with my mother Keiko, while being close to Sashiko, in Japan. We had good moments before 2013, yet we also had enough difficult times. Now, it is even much better. We aren’t just 2 of us who…

As much as I humbly accept the admiration toward our work as “Art”, we do not consider our pieces as “Art” for several reasons (we are also trying to make it “Art” in our understanding, but I believe the core part of Sashiko isn’t Art). ☆ I often stitch Asano-Ha…

This is really interesting, many times I cannot thread because of my eyes and I always think it probably never stopped anyone else so must continue
