There is no doubt about the “Difference” between Cultures. Because of the “Difference”, it is okay to go through difficult time to understand another culture. By spending a lot of time in difference, I hope that I can introduce the Sashiko we practice, which isn’t fully introduced in English.
☆
I may have provided a good explanation in the Sashiko Live on 9/26. I don’t know exactly which phrase was effective, but I ended the Live with a good feeling about “something communicated”. If you are willing to see what Sashiko really is for us, please try to watch it throughout – the talk isn’t really “constructed”, but listening to the whole story may give you a hint to understand Sashiko more.
☆
“Outcome” (product) is very important in Sashiko. However, as we only focus on “Outcome”, it is equally (or more) important to acknowledge the “Mindset (Process)” in Sashiko. Process with a specific purpose is one thing – but the process with no specific intention is also an important part of Sashiko. After all, it is something “Ordinary” – and therefore it is very important to acknowledge the “Difference”. I keep doing my best to share stories to explain. It would be great if you would keep being okay to not to fully understand at the first glance. One day, I believe, we can come to a mutual understanding.

When I speak up, I try my best to be “reasonable”. “Reasonable” here indicates being “logical” so that we can be on the same page in sharing stories regardless of the fundamental difference we have. Therefore, I ask here to read as many posts as possible here. The logic is…

This weekend, I was supposed to be teaching the Sashiko Workshop in a beautiful Saori Weaving Studio in NYC (@loopoftheloom). This strongly reminds me how the world has changed. It is quite sad. I do not know when I can offer the in-person workshop next. We all have to adjust…
