All hand-stitched in a society where we chase productivity & efficiency. Mizutou

atsushijp, 2024年9月11日

All hand-stitched in a society where we chase productivity & efficiency. Mizutoushi & Drying by hands in an era where a machine can prepare a meal for us. The reason I share Sashiko Stories here is to encourage anyone to understand what Sashiko really is. However, as “Japanese Sashiko” comes with so many cultural differences (if you are non-Japanese). It may take time to “understand” it… and I hope that my Stories encourage them to “Feel” something on top of “Understand” it.
☆
Many ask me for the “Answers” and “Definitions”. Some fabricate the answers to meet the market’s expectation without committing deeper learning. Sashiko exists in one’s ordinary, and I want you to “Feel” first instead of “Understanding” it logically.
☆
The Japanese believed in an unique form of Animizm – 八百万神 – Yaorozunokami – 8 Millions God/Spirits, which translate that everything has spirit in it. The more I practice Sashiko, I come to feel closer to what they would have felt. I teach the “Form” for anyone to “Feel” more of Sashiko – and it isn’t all about technique after all.
☆
Thursday is the day for Sashiko Live Streaming (in English at 9 pm EST). Please visit our Youtube Channel & I will be there to create a space for you to be (Ibasho). Questions about Culture & Stories are welcome, and I hope I can pass down Sashiko with more of “Feeling” on top of “Understanding”.

There are many Sashiko artisans in Japan. I don’t consider myself as one of the masters. As much as I appreciate your admiration of my & Keiko’s work, we are still learning. However, there is one thing that can differentiate me from the other Sashiko artisans – I believe I…

MLK day. I am still learning about his historical achievement, but I respect him & am willing to learn more. In my understanding, his great achievement is not only about making (the flow to) Civil Rights Act., but also the “encouragement” for people (minority/oppressed) to acknowledge the issue while the…
