Bright Green in the late Summer. While hanging many Asanoha Stitched Sashiko Fabric, I feel I am painting with Dark Indigo & Bright White Thread – the contract of 2 different Blues, Light Blue from the Sky & Dark Blue from Indigo brought me a bit of Japanese scenery to our backyard – to the Central PA.

In the Domestika Course Trailer, I was wrapped with these fabrics. This summer, with going through Mizutoushi & hanging in the air, these fabrics are ready to use – activated & aligned.

Some may find it boring as the patterns are all the same. I would like to ask those who find it boring if they find “bathing/showering” boring. When my mother Keiko received a question if she likes Sashiko or not, she answered it isn’t really a matter of like or not. This would be the same reaction from the Sashiko Artisans I grew up with.

I am not there yet. However, Sashiko is like brushing teeth. In extreme situations, I could skip, but I would feel so uncomfortable if I didn’t. Sashiko exist(ed) in the Ordinary, and my approach is always to try to have Sashiko in our Ordinary while appreciating so many choices.

Well. Once one gets the “rhythm” of Sashiko, this amount of Sashiko will not be insane. Everyone with rhythm would say, it is a matter of “time” – and it is.

重ねが終わってない刺し布、刺し抜けが明らかな刺し布を除いたら、30枚程度の水通しになりました（やっぱり一箱どこかにあると思うんです…）。でも、正直な所、30枚で良かったです。ロープも、ロープを支える土台もギリギリでした。脚立を途中に挟んでバランスをとってなんとか形になるぐらいの難易度。凪が続けば倍程度は行けそうですが…天気が良くて暑すぎず寒すぎず風が吹かない日なんて、そうそうあるものではないので、今日形にできて良かったです。

完成したものは100mの半分にも行かない感じなので、継続して挑戦させて下さい。10年前と比較すると、様々なお仕事を頂く中で、圧倒的に刺し子をしている時間が少なくなってしまいました。有難いと思う中、いつも言っている「刺し子を実際にしている人が主役」であるという思いには全く変わりがありません。運針会でご縁を頂いて、どんどん上手になる方々を見ながら、なんとか私も…と刺し子と向き合う時間を増やす為に必要だったプロジェクトです。開始当初と私は何も変わっていないので、今後も同様に続けていけたらと思っています。また多分、麻の葉柄刺したくなってくるだろうし。

夏の終わり、まだ緑が眩い庭に藍の色を散りばめることができました。白の麻の葉は、麻の葉というよりも星に見えるような気もして、空の青、藍の青、芝生の緑…と、自宅の裏庭が目の保養の場になっています。一日干して、取り込んで、また次の刺し子と向き合います。変化を叫ばれる中で、もしかしたら変わらないことが一番の変化なのかもしれないと思いながら。
