As Sashiko becomes popular, I find numbers of misleading, simplified, and insufficient descriptions of what Sashiko is. This unfortunate “change” happens due to the lack of commitment of teachers who think they know about Sashiko enough. The commitment isn’t necessary when one’s purpose is just to enjoy Stitching. However, when it comes to teaching… one has to understand the responsibility of changing its culture.

A lot of insufficient information out there. Many ask me what is the recommendation to start Sashiko “in English”. The best recommendation is to take my [Core & Essence] Workshop (In-Person or Online), but I know it is a big commitment in terms of prices. Before 2023, I didn’t have the answer to this request for the recommendation. In 2023, I made an Introductory Course on Domestika for those who wish to start learning Sashiko – it isn’t really covering the whole picture of Sashiko I would like to pass down – yet, it is a good way to start understanding Sashiko & fulfilling the “cultural & technical gap” made by ignorance toward the cultural practice.
☆
Most of the teaching out there isn’t wrong. They aren’t enough to state as the “Whole”, but many did good research within their capacity… Well, soon, I may need to change this statement. There may be something “Wrong” in the description of what they teach as “Sashiko” – The technical & cultural context in the Doestika Course will help you to “start” learning what Sashiko is. I offer many platforms such as Youtube, Website, Instagram to continuously learn the Sashiko we practice – and personalized & individual attention is available as [Core & Essence] when you want to have the confirmation, or by-passing the hard training.

If you have taken the Domestika Course, please share your review on the Domestika Platform as well as here in the comment section! If you are new here, please consider starting the Sashiko journey with us.

The Domestika course set me on a good path to understanding Sashiko and I would really recommend it. It opens doors for exploration. Thank you for your efforts.
Your Domestika class is an excellent introduction to understanding Sashiko. I appreciate your commitment to sharing the stories in English.
💯Thank you, @sashikostory for your continuing commitment to maintaining the cultural integrity of #sashiko while helping sewists access it. As you noted two years ago during your #Quiltcon lecture, one must acknowledge the source of the river that one stands before. I, for one, am not most interested in working with teachers that, for whatever reason, want to dismiss, ignore/jettison, the source and history of any culture’s art forms including #sashiko.
