Our Sashiko Story to Your Sashiko Journey

I am glad Sashiko Stories here resonate with some of you. It means a lot as I consider the Stories “Ordinary” – and finding others going through a similar experience encourages me to continue sharing. My Story can be “Your” Story. I am speaking up because “someone foreign” is rewriting “Our” Story.
☆
Currently, Sashiko is full of “Bright Light”. Mindfulness, Zen, Happiness… with many “positive” interpretations, I feel like Sashiko is on the stage with so much “spotlight”. It is good to be spotlighted for the performance, but when we focus on the ordinary, when we need Natural Light, these Bright Lights will unable us to find the True Light. In order to find the Natural Light from outside somehow, it may be a good idea to keep the room dark for a while. This analogy may not make sense… At least, however, when I found my own light of “Sashiko”, I was in the complete dark. Therefore, I experience the allergic reaction when they romanticize Sashiko more than necessary. It is “they” who decided to spotlight Sashiko. It will be lit for a while – but when they found something else to make money, what would happen…?
☆
The society we live in now (including SNS) do not accept negativity. Even if it is out of honesty or truth, negativity will be blocked & ignored. We prioritize positivity over reality. However, we have to know that the Natural Light doesn’t exist when no Dark exists. There is always another story on the other side. I appreciate you listening to our Story where “Sashiko” is so positive & cheering. It’s not all about it, and those who “sell” Sashiko with superficial positively are not those from the Original Culture.

Sashiko and Art. Especially since I think in Japanese in my brain, I am still indecisive if Sashiko is the Art. I am still learning, but there is one thing I can share. It is our hope to encourage people throughout our Sashiko regardless Sashiko is the Art or not….

There is no good without evil. There is no light without darkness. Those who have experienced, will understand.

Please keep sharing your thoughts with us. Your introspectiveness and thoughtfulness always make me stop and think and consider my own life. Your love of Sashiko and the desire to honour the traditions of the stitching is heart warming.
