I uploaded a video of “Itokiri” focusing on Snipping Sound. I don’t see videos on this type of large fabric… so, I hope the video illustrates what Itokiri is. Please be advised that not all Sashiko projects are suitable for this Itokiri. So, please do it at your own risk if you wish to try. If you are following my direction & recommendation, then Itokiri will be a new beginning of its own story.

It is quite strange that I often feel “purified” after Itokiri. It is just a step in Sashiko practice, yet I feel as if I am wearing the bright white T-shirt right after opening the package (which only exists in my memory as I do not purchase a garment any longer…) Well. Sashiko is a word for stitching, but Sashiko has so many processes/steps to make it “Sashiko”. I hope you enjoy the video.

最新技術（私にとってのですが）を駆使して、糸切りの音だけを拾ったかのような、糸切りの動画をYoutubeに投稿しました。呼吸音も空気のノイズもできるだけ消せたので、初めてにしてはいい感じの動画になったのではと思います。動画では、糸切りをするのは初めてかな…あまり上手ではないのでご容赦下さい。

糸切りをした後の刺し子布というのは、なぜこうも清々しい感じがするのでしょうか。おろしたての真っ白なTシャツに腕を通す時の感覚というか、何か清らかな感じがするのです。実際は、それまでの刺し子で汗は付着しているだろうし、一回の水通しでは汚れは落ちないことは承知しつつも、なんか晴れた気持ちになるのです。

布選び、図案書き、刺し子、水通し、糸切り…全ての過程で、「刺し子をする人」の個性がでます。その個性の結晶を、今度は「使う人（受け取る人）」が磨き上げたり、はたまた己の色に染めたり…と、刺し子の物語は続いていきます。だから、だからこそ、「源流」が大切なのです。どこから来たのか。その源流は認識されているか。認識されていないのであれば、いずれ汚されたり塞がれたり、はたまた忘れられてしまう可能性すらあります。今の目の前の流れは、源流があってこその流れです。水通し一つとっても、大切な物語なんだろうと思うのです。
