It is now ready to use in our ordinary after Mizutoushi & Itokiri (Clipping the thread tails). Can you tell which is the so-called “wrong side”? Well, as I intend to make both sides as “finish side“, there isn’t the “wrong side” much, but I hope which side is the side “supposed to be showing side”.
☆
Each Sashiko artisans has their own rhythm in Unshin. No single rhythm is the same among Sashiko Artisans. At the same time, experienced Artisans can “Change” the rhythm for their purpose of Sashiko. This is one of the Furoshiki I didn’t think of anything in the rhythm (my natural rhythm). So, the ratio of the “front (showing)” and “back (wrong)” isn’t 50-50. Therefore, one side looks quite bright, and then the other looks dark-ish. It is because of the difference in ratio of Indigo Fabric & Stitches Sizes. Some define the “answer” for the ratio… but my answer is “it depends”… there isn’t any universal ratio for every Sashiko stitching.
☆
I find quite many arguments about “What is the right Size of Sashiko Stitching”. I often find the answer as “Rice Grain”. Well… looking at this Furoshiki, do we really care for the size of each stitch? I didn’t even pay attention if the stitches were even. We don’t make the stitches to be even. It happens to be even after we enjoy stitching.

My goal is to share the “voice” of those who actually practice Japanese Sashiko stitching. A daily comment here is a great way to do so, but I will add one more action, “Sashiko Talk”, where I invite Sashiko stitchers to discuss what Sashiko is for them. I hope you…

As I share a lot, I receive many responses thanking me. It is my pleasure to do so, and I appreciate you being here to share what I share to somewhat preserve the Sashiko we practice. When I say I am “sharing everything” with our Sashiko to preserve it, I…

This may be the first time to actually put it like this in 6 years… as it is uncomfortable for me to ask for specific help. I mention the help to refer to me, be mindful who to learn from, and acknowledge the stories. Today, I have a more specific…

Sorry one more question … what type of fabric did you use? I would love to make this with denim but worry it would be too heavy a fabric to use ??
