atsushijp, 2024年2月26日

Believe it or not, I am an introvert. I am too shy to talk to someone whom I don’t know well… so I apologize for “just eye-contact & smile” when you found me in QuiltCon. It is true me on the stage for lectures or right next students in the workshop… but, from “natural standing point”, I still prefer stitching over going out for drinks with many people (unless they are okay with me bringing the stitching materials there).
☆
Although I am not a dedicated quilter, QuiltCon has been like a home to me. Thanks to many Quilt Heros (in my mind), I got many chances to introduce myself. If you came to this Instagram Account recently, and you aren’t sure about what Sashiko is, please consider taking the “Introduction to Japanese Sashiko Stitching” Course on Domestika. Link is this: https://www.domestika.org/en/courses/4952-introduction-to-japanese-sashiko-stitching/sashikostory
☆
Unfortunately, Sashiko introduced in English is simplified & romanticized. Therefore, I didn’t have any “recommendation” until this Domestika Course. Yes, the course is also somewhat “simplified”, yet it is a good “start” to understand what I am trying to do. Then, when they need further assistance, please consider taking the In-Person or [Core & Essence] Online Class. What I teach in QuiltCon & on Domestika do not really overlap. The QR code is on the 2nd photo, and the link is also available on the Story & Highlight.

Many words change their meaning while traveling across the language & culture. A Japanese word you know may actually have a different meaning actually in Japan. Unfortunately, “Sashiko” already has its own meaning detached from what Sashiko actually is. This is a sad misleading by those who care profit over…

Sashiko x Tsutsugaki Hand-dye Vintage Fabric. Because of my “boxed-idea of Sashiko”, Keiko’s colorful Sashiko always impress me. This collaboration could be something only we (who live in today) can do. The Tsutsugaki fabric was, “probably”, too expensive for someone who practiced Sashiko stitching. ☆ Katazome, Tusugaki, many types of…

Since 10 Sets of “Practice Set for transferring Sashiko Patterns” are sold out, I spend a beautiful morning to parepare another 10 of those. I love stitching, and I love sharing what Sashiko is. Sashiko is not all about stitching (as you know by now.) 刺し子をより知って頂くためのセットをコツコツと制作。刺し子は「刺す」だけじゃないので、それを知っていただく為に。 2017-11-20 20:09:48 Source

I followed the course on Domestika and I recommend it. It is a great introduction to this art. I am just a beginner but I am making quick progress. I enjoy the the meditative aspect of the stitching. I am working on four simple panels to sew into a rice bag. Thank you!

I took the Domestika class right before your Quiltcon class. You’re a wonderful teacher and so funny in person. It helped relax everyone to get in the rhythm.

I am also an introvert. More than 2-3 people at a time overwhelms me and that is with people I know. I can ‘fake it’ for a short time with strangers or those I don’t know well. I really applaud you for braving events like QuiltCon. Take time to recharge with those you love.

I’m sorry we didn’t have an opportunity to connect at QuiltCon which is such a busy time. I look forward to continuing to learn from your Sashiko stories.💙
