This is more like my imagination… but I believe Sashiko was sort of “Alone Work” in the Japanese Ordinary. They stitched for the family – and it was their “own” time, almost private time, to talk to the fabric, needle, and themselves. Then, they probably had time to get together for the same purpose: sharing stitching. One of my goals is to maintain the “place” to be.

I say, [All Different, All Good], in Sashiko. So, Sashiko is beautiful when they complete their own rhythm & style. It means that it is difficult to make a “collaborated” work as everyone’s stitches are different. Interestingly, though, when we share the same “Form” and “Rhythm”, the results can bring the “Harmony” – that their stitches are different, yet very natural to be put together.

For me, this is the “future” of Sashiko – to choose to be part of a big Sashiko item. The amount of stitching one can do is very limited (regardless no matter how fast one can stitch). By sharing the Form of our Sashiko, we can work on such a big piece like this Jacket – 18 Sashiko Rising Artisans work are in this one Jacket – and none of the pieces fight each other – they naturally become a part of this beautiful piece.

It is my dream to start a similar project outside of Japan. I believe I can do so by continuing my workshops & Online Class. 18 Sashiko Artisans & 1 Jacket – for me, this is one form of the future of Sashiko.

想像の話ではあるのですが、刺し子は本来「一人（独り）」の仕事だったように思います。その膨大な一人の時間の中に存在した、「一緒に刺し子をする時間」が癒しであり、また居場所だったのではないかと想像するのです。ただ、本質は一人で、あるいは何世代もの一家族で完結するものなんだろうと思います。

ただ、一人でできることには限界があります。当たり前の話ですが、多くの方にご協力を頂くことによって大きな作品が可能になることもあります。とはいえ、全てが手作業の針仕事。なかなかに「共同作業」と言うのは難しいのも事実です。「みんな違ってみんな良い」とは言いますが、違うものを一つの作品にまとめるのは至難の業です。むしろ不可能に近いと言っていい。ただ、「型」とか「リズム」を共有することで似たものは作ることができるし、作られる過程のリズムが似ていると、一つにまとめても違和感がない作品ができることを、運針会という私達の運針をお伝えする会にご参加頂いた皆様のお力で形にすることができました。18人の方々のお力を借りて、一つの大きな作品にすることができました。しかも違和感なく。これはきっと刺し子の未来の一つなんだろうと思っています。一人の仕事から、共同で作り上げることができる作品へ。今年も同様の作品を作り続けることができますように。
