Our Sashiko Story to Your Sashiko Journey

As our days continue without missing a beat, Stories are connected to make anoth

As our days continue without missing a beat, Stories are connected to make another bigger story (we may call it History at some point). What I share as “Sashiko Story” is also connected, and what I do is connect all the dots. Unfortunately, Sashiko was introduced in a form of “random dots” because of “whom” and “what for” introduced. There is no such a thing as “Just Because” in the series of stories.
☆
When you have a question in Sashiko, think about the stories instead of following someone’s rule. For example, we mostly stitch from the “Back/Wrong/Hiding Side” of the fabric. Why? Well, because they wanted “both sides” as the finished sides. Why? Well, because they didn’t have enough fabric to cover the “wrong side”. But then how do you make both sides beautiful? Well, that’s the point “wisdom” developed by many artisans kicks in. Arguing if we should make a “knot” or not is ludicrous – one can make knots and choose not to make knots – but understanding “why”, the stories will make the Stitching “Sashiko”. Please learn from a teacher who can share these continuous stories. Technique is important, but the technique can be useful & special when the stories are behind.

I got a permission to share this photo, the Sashiko art by my student @natskiti . ★ We have been “with” many types of Sashiko. However, this “Anime x Sashiko” is something completely outside of our imagination. It is just amazing & stunning. I am so happy that the artists…

I love this! This is true across cultures. The context makes the techniques so much richer.
