In a big trend of Sashiko, we can find many “Sashiko Threads” among many choices

atsushijp, 2022年11月14日

In a big trend of Sashiko, we can find many “Sashiko Threads” among many choices of other threads – from hand-sewing threads to thick embroidery threads. There are NO rules to restrict your imagination & creativity. It is true that one can use any thread for Sashiko. However, when you share what Sashiko is to others (or even teach to others), please learn the difference between “Our Sashiko Thread (by Upcycle Stitches)” and others including “Other Sashiko Threads”. There are stories to explain why we call it “Sashiko Thread” while saying Thread Matters in Sashiko. (Google the phrase [Why Sashiko Thread?] and you will find me talking on Youtube with the title of “Sashiko Story Vol.3”).
☆
Many wonder about the “Thickness” of Thread for Sashiko as they worry about the size of each stitch. It is quite interesting to me because the explanation of the Sashiko introduced in English is not fully described (Not wrong, just insufficient). If you have issues with your stitches like “Why isn’t mine looking like others?”, the first line on the check list is the thread – not your skill. If you are going to spend hundreds of hours stitching, please make a small investment in the threads – which will be beneficial for the stitcher in the long run. We only sell what we use – if we do not use, we do not sell. We aren’t just “supply stores” – we are Sashiko artisans who sell supplies to make our activities more sustainable.

It requires a well-developed skill and experience to have the thread dyed with Kakishibu, Persimmon tannin, Dyed. We had several batches in 2018, and we have some in stock in the US market (and in Japan for other international shipping.) Each color has a limited amount, and for this Kakishibu…

I have been using thread from your store for mending and strengthening fabric in our clothing. It washes and wears so much better than other threads I have tried. I appreciate learning about sashiko from you, as well as your commitment to good customer service.💙

I really like your threads. Tried another brand that came in a kit and it was much thinner and not as nice. Changed it to your thread and it looks much better. I highly recommend it!
