Our Sashiko Story to Your Sashiko Journey

In English, everyone says Sashiko is Art. Although I have many reasons & stories

atsushijp, 2022年9月20日

In English, everyone says Sashiko is Art. Although I have many reasons & stories to say that “I do not consider Sashiko as Art“, I also believe that Sashiko “can be” Art. I just do not want anyone to use the word (concept) “Art” to do whatever they feel comfortable without learning, or even “acknowledging” the culture & stories behind the words. Therefore, I respect those “Sashiko Artists” who try to learn & interpret Sashiko as Art respectfully.
☆
Well, if Sashiko “can be” the Art, why don’t we make “one Sashiko Art”, with applying our philosophy as Japanese, and involving as many Japanese as possible? It was Spring 2021 to start planning this project. Spend months to combine “almost to be trashed” extremely small vintage fabric, ask many of our Sashiko friends to stitch, and finalized it as one “Art” as a way to express Keiko’s Prayer & Appreciation. A full description for this piece is available on Patreon as a series of 2 episodes along with many more photos of “Sashiko Art” we try to interpret & introduce to the world. Sashiko is more than just a trend for someone who romanticizes the word & gets profit out of it.

“I am the past. You are the future (in Sashiko)”. I appreciate many comments on my phrase. This phrase is based on 2 Japanese word – 「伝統」&「伝承」. Both words can be translated as “Tradition”, but 「伝承」is the word for passing down “it” as is, and 「伝統」is the word for developing…

“Boro” is now understood as the word for “patchworking” for ecological purposes

2022年7月29日

“Boro” is now understood as the word for “patchworking” for ecological purposes – even as the technique to patchwork the fabric. Often, a practitioner interprets this concept as the way to “connect” recycled (vintage) fabric to enlarge the fabric piece. Personally, I do not think the core of Boro doesn’t…

It may be the language differences, @but I feel bad that you seem so angry in all your posts. Just know that what you are experiencing is a normal frustration lots of people have as they watch the world change and evolve.
