Our Sashiko Story to Your Sashiko Journey

The Sashiko Thread we recommend is (a bit) different from other sewing/embroider

atsushijp, 2022年8月21日

The Sashiko Thread we recommend is (a bit) different from other sewing/embroidery threads. They are “threads” in the same category, but Japanese Sashiko artisan developed the threads for Sashiko overtime. Therefore, Thread Does Matter. Therefore, I would like you to know how to add the “Care” to the thread – in many various ways, but here is one.

☆

I sometimes encounter the reviews to (Sashiko) Threads saying [It is extremely difficult to manage] and [It tangled right away. Waste of Money]. It seems like it happens to other Sashiko Threads besides the one we use & recommend. I find it very unfortunate because the troubles won’t happen when they learn how to take care of their threads in Sashiko. It is OUR responsibility to offer the information on how to avoid unfortunate experiences. Now, in the trend, many crafting stores offer “Sashiko Threads” without knowing the stories nor offering the explanation.

☆

This isn’t really a “Sashiko Tutorials”. I include this information into my Sashiko Class, but this is NOT the core message of my teaching. It is like 0.1% (but necessary) information to start with. Therefore, I feel it is important to offer it for free while some may take participation fees for this information… Well, “how to take care of the threads” is no secret… it is so-called “wisdom”. So far, as I offer the information here and there, we have not received a negative review regarding this issue. I sincerely hope that we can choose/support a store, a teacher, and a mindset to appreciate the importance of “wisdom” not only in Sashiko but in many other fields. Our Threads are available via @UpcycleStitches

It is the core principle of Sashiko – the beauty in “usage”. YoSokuBi is a concept of Folk Art that true beauty exists while using the item – vessel, furniture, fabric and more. Sashiko follows the same concept. The Boro is so beautiful because it existed in…

Another great photo from Keiko, with her recent achivement (Started in the summer of 2018). She enjoys designing the Sashiko pattern with using the Japanese traditional geometric pattern, yet make it somewhat complicated. All hand-stitched. I proudly say that this is THE Sashiko jacket we are in love with, and…

I braid mine with a fold at the top, then I can just pull one thread out at a time and the others stay neat!
