One of my goals is to keep Sashiko as “Sustainable” practice. In order to achieve it, I have a webstore to offer something we very much need in our own Sashiko practice. Thanks to the current trend, I receive quite many emails asking for the teaching opportunity. However, “Business (Selling Items)” and “Teaching” are my second priority. Even this “Sashiko Story” isn’t the first priority. What is it, then?

The spirit of Sashiko exists in Sashiko. You may wonder why is Atsushi saying so obvious? Well, it took 30 years to get to this – therefore, stitching is my first priority in Sashiko – without stitching, business, teaching, and sharing stories do not matter to me. That’s how my “business”, “teaching” and sharing stories are different from others. For me, this is the “Appreciating the Culture & Passing Down it to the next generation”.

100 meter of Asanoha. I have reached the 30 meter line (photo is only 3~4 meter). I don’t know what the heck I am going to do with this, but my spirit to Sashiko exists in this Stitching – and many other Sashiko projects. I hope one day you can “feel” it. 様々な形で刺し子と関わってきましたが、最終的に辿り着いた場所は、「常に刺し子をしていたい」という祈りに似た限られた時間の中の瞬間です。一家の大黒柱の妻のおかげで、育ててくれた両親のおかげで、難しい父親でも愛想を尽かさない娘のおかげで、日々刺し子ができています。刺し子の本質はどこにあるか。日常だとか用即美だとか、色々言葉で表現することはできますが、刺し子の本質は刺し子にあるのです。（そりゃそうだと思われるかもしれませんが、ここに辿り着くまでに30年かかったので）。

刺し子糸や布の商売も、刺し子を教えることも、お金を稼ぎ利益を出し持続可能な仕組みを作るという意味でとても大切です。文化だと声を出すなら、自己満足でいちゃいけません。でも、同時に自己満足すらできないようなものへの熱意を、どうやってわかってもらえるのか。だからこそ、商売や教える機会を犠牲にしても、時には針を持つ時間に集中したいのです。

そんな願いを込めて始めた（調子に乗って結果的に始まった）100mの麻の葉刺し子ですが、なんだかんだで1/3まで着ました。写真はたったの3mなのですが、写真に収まりきりません。100m刺したらどうするんでしょうね。アホですね。100mも麻の葉の刺し子を楽しく（時には飽きて）するコツが運針です。運針会、8/30に開催できることになりました。あと1席は大丈夫かなと思います。9月も比較的余裕はあるので、興味がある方はDM頂ければ幸いです。「運針ってなんだ？」という方は、是非youtube等をご覧頂けたらと思います！
