I usually do this on Patreon, but a bit of mind food here. Which do you “choose” if you choose ONLY one to achieve in your life, “Success (Glory)” or “Satisfaction”?
☆
While both can be a trigger (foundation) of realizing happiness, these 2 “achievements” exist in the extreme opposite of one common line. It is “how we consider ourselves in the community”. In short, “Success (Glory)” requires other people to realize while “Satisfaction” can happen even without anyone. Without comparing, we won’t feel the success. Satisfaction is a more internalized feeling. Therefore, I think, Success is more “other (community)” oriented and Satisfaction is more “Myself (personal)” oriented.

This isn’t a question for better or worse, right or wrong. That being said, my choice would be “Success (Glory)”. That’s how I am trained. However, the core of Sashiko exists in “Satisfaction”, I believe. Then you may wonder, “Wait, isn’t Japanese the culture of [We] instead of [I], like collectivism and individualism”? Yes, it is. I want you to think again, though – In order to feel the “others”, we have to emphasize “I”. When “comparison (We)” isn’t available nearby, we tend to focus on “I”.

In most cases, Sashiko wasn’t the way to compete with others. However, in the trend, in the commercialization, in its revival, it became the “subject” we measure ourselves. Since many look for success in Sashiko, they interpret the words to “more than what it is”. So do I & so did I. We are actively changing the culture for our own needs. Therefore, I say we need to “be mindful” of what we do – by acknowledging what it is and what it could have been. Is your Sashiko for “Success” or “Satisfaction”? Are you aware of “whom” you are learning Sashiko from?

Glory – a seldom used word. “ Glory Hallelujah”
“ Kingdom and Glory”?
I choose peace and contentment over competition
i find all of the patterns have their own beauty. It is hard to pick my favorite. I guess the one I am doing at the time is my favorite.
