Completion of all the Sashiko Workshops in Berkeley, CA. It was my first time teaching Sashiko on the West Coast. It has been such a pleasure to share the Sashiko we have been practicing. East, West, South and North. I am confident now that the Sashiko I share now is quite unique: the Sashiko one can learn in English is not a whole (not wrong, but insufficient). I hope to travel to many other places to share Sashiko – it will be an eye-opening experience for many Sashiko Lovers.
☆
We had 2 Sashiko teachers in the workshop today: they have very long established experience & practice in Sashiko. They decided to join my workshop regardless – which says “Core & Essence”, which often gets misunderstood as “basic”. They took both of the workshops, and I cannot thank them enough for being there. All the smiles in 3 days are my treasure. I will continue this journey.
☆
As I got a request, I will talk about my experience in Sashiko Workshops in Berkeley, CA, in the Sashiko Live this week. It is Thursday Night at 9 pm EST, on Youtube (find me typing “SashikoStory”.

If you are a long-time follower, you may have seen this Jacket. The “Unshinkai Jacket” is one of the biggest achievements of my teaching Sashiko. It isn’t my work. Keiko is a designer/producer of this Jacket, but Sashiko itself isn’t done by Keiko. The Jacket is composed of 18 Japanese…

The words are very convenience. It secures the accuracy and efficiency of communication. However, occasionally, we feel something more than words. Hand-crafting, here Sashiko stitching for me, can amplify the message beyond the words. So can Music. So can good food. So can you – sometimes without the words. A…

It was such a wonderful and informative workshop. I’ve been stitching and thinking about it ever since. I feel so grateful that I was able to attend. Thank you!
