Fun Time – Stitching weekend – is over. A pretty good progress in 2~3 days or so

Fun Time – Stitching weekend – is over. A pretty good progress in 2~3 days or so after introducing the “red” Color on Friday’s Sashiko Live Streaming. As much as I share many Sashiko Stories, we are Sashiko Stitchers after all. We enjoy Sashiko, and therefore we would like to protect what Sashiko is for us (and possibly for other Japanese). One of the primitive forms of Sashiko is to make fabric stronger (warmer & thicker) – patchworking and stitching with beautiful patterns are of course an important part of Sashiko, but we must not forget that they stitched because they wanted to have as few patches as possible.
☆
Some say our stitching can be “overwhelming” (or sometimes intimidating…). Well, for those who focus on each stitch for how accurate they need to be, this can be too much. However, please be advised that the “it has to be a rice-grain size” and “embracing imperfection” are already twisted interpretations in English. They aren’t wrong, but insufficient. When they learn the Kata (form), anyone can do this. After sharing Sashiko for 4 years in both Japanese & English, I am confident that anyone can reach this point when they continue.
☆
isn’t so difficult – but there is a key to make it successful. Use the thread we recommend, and learn why we say “Thread Matters”. All of the information is on our Youtube & Website.

Sashiko isn’t only “Fashion”.

Sashiko isn’t only “Fashion”.  Sashiko itself isn’t Art (to me).  Sashiko isn’t about Pattern or Design.  Sashiko isn’t only about mending. ☆ It is natural, you wonder, “what the heck is Sashiko then?” because I keep saying Sashiko is NOT ◯◯. I cannot define it, well… I do not want…

Many express their gratitude for me sharing the Sashiko we practice. I appreciate their gratitude. It is my goal to “share” the Sashiko I have received. However, the core motivation is quite personal. I would like to share the Sashiko (who we are), so that my daughter may be able…

Getting ready for the Sashiko Workshop next week in Lewisburg, PA. Up on a request, I offer the Sashiko workshop (mostly private – but happy to announce to make it semi-private & shared workshop) in the town where I live. A good part of workshop in Lewisburg is that I…

Thank you very much for this photo. I have a pair of jeans with holes in the same area that I wanted to repair with sashiko, but I was unsure how to incorporate the patch. On top seemed strange. This is a great alternative method!

when I first learned this stitch, it was as a method of fabric stability and strength, not a craft in itself. I find that over the years, that has helped keep me focused- the WHY is more important than the HOW. Function before Form – stitching not to be beautiful, but beautiful because it is done with ernest effort and purpose. 🌿
