Thursday night, 9 pm EST. For today, within an hour or so, I have a Sashiko Live Streaming where I talk about Sashiko while sharing the “unedited-view” of Sashiko Stitching. It is one of my goals in sharing Sashiko: to create a place where anyone can come & find time to stitch “together” – a place where they can feel to “belong”. We call it “Ibasho” in Japanese. Although I sometimes make a strong statement, I hope all I want to do is “inclusion”: Regardless of my strong message, “exclusion” is far from my message. I want Live Streaming to be like that.

It is offered in English, but I consider it to be as “Japanese” as possible. I do not “teach” Sashiko in the Live Streaming. I just share my time spent together, talking as if you are visiting a Japanese friend or relative who talks about the “Stories”. I hope you can come and stop by for more stories. It is almost all Thursday night in my time, 9 pm EST, including tonight.

もう週末。金曜日の夜は日本語で刺し子配信をしております。刺し子をしながら、刺し子についてお話しする時間。今、こんな不思議な「予定のない刺し子」を運針を楽しむだけの為に進めています。これがどうなるか。また皆様と一緒に楽しめたらと思っています。

定期的に日本語でもお話をさせて頂いていて、またインスタグラムでも日本語での思いを少し増やすようにして、様々な方々からお言葉を頂けるようになりました。本当に有難いことです。英語では偉そうなことを言っていますが、日本語を、日本文化を当たり前とされていて刺し子を長年されていらっしゃる方は全て先輩であり、また先生だと思っています。是非ご感想を伺いたい。なんならお話も伺いたい。「日本人であること」は刺し子には必要な要素ではありません。日本人だから誰でも刺し子の先生だとは思っていません。ただ、小難しい複雑な日本社会の中で、長く刺し子を続けられてきた諸先輩方のお話には必ずと言って良いほど、学べるところがあります。学ぶと言っても新しい知識を得るというよりは、点と点を線で結ぶお話を伺えるというような感じです。コメントへの返信も遅かったり不安定だったりしますが、全て拝読しています。是非思いを、お話を、この場所でもまた配信でも、共有頂けると嬉しいです。
