Our Sashiko Story to Your Sashiko Journey

Dear You,

atsushijp, 2021年6月24日

Dear You,

☆

You. Yes, You. The one reading this post. Look, read this post, possibly with mindfulness please. I may have not met you in person. I don’t know who you really are. I have no idea what you do, what you have done in the past, and what is happening to you at this moment. Life can be a bi_ch and Sh_t happens. However, you have made it here today, so will you for another day. You will make it one after another, and another.

☆

You may have felt as if you are at the bottom with no light. You may have wanted it to end with too much pain & suffering. However, you made it here today to read this. You will make it here again, to read another story.

I share my own stories with Sashiko. The words here can be both enjoyable and uncomfortable. You may disagree with what I write. You may even hate me. Or, you may like what I write. You may even adore me. Regardless, you are here. You care, therefore you are reading this post. Therefore, I would like to care for you being here. No matter what happens to you, I will be here. I may not like what you say & you may not like what I write, but I am always here stitching & rattling. You are not alone here.

I hope I didn’t freak you out in this post. For me, the antonym of “Love” isn’t “Hatred” – it is “Ignoring (Not caring/saying I don’t care)”. In Japanese, all I say about Sashiko is that “I would like to create a Ibasho – 居場所 (place to be)”. If you support what I do, I welcome you. I thank you sincerely. If you don’t like me, I still welcome you. I respect solitude, but loneliness (being ignored) can be an unbearable pain. I am always here sharing & stitching.

言葉に逃げることが多いのですが、翌々考えてみると、詰まる所は自分への言霊だったりします。己への手紙。言葉と戯れる時、少しだけれど心が軽くなったりするのです。どこかで聞いたことがある音楽と共に。

Sunday morning. It was such a week. I lost about 350 followers since I talked about “privilege”. It means my posts created a lot of discomfort. It also proves how ignored it can be. ☆ I am an ordinary person. So yes, the number of followers makes me happy when…

In 2017, when I first received an offer to teach Sashiko, I wasn’t sure what to teach. I thought all of what I could do was “normal” for many people. After teaching Sashiko for 4 years, I realize I have received a pile of treasure – a lot to share….

Thank you for caring and being willing to be present with those who would come along side you to enjoy the beauty of your culture and words as well as your stitching. Thank you for creating a place to belong in a busy preoccupied world.
