I guess… none of us who read this post (who has access to the Internet & device) do not need to hand-stitch for our ”survival”. We have a choice to purchase/ask for the piece of cloth. We “choose” to hand-stitch. There are many reasons & stories why we hand-stitch regardless of the differences. It was a fortunate time to talk about the stories while stitching in Sashiko Talk (4th) with friends.

“Why do you hand-stitch?” There is no universal “Right” answer to this question. Your reason is your own story, and it is valid. I have my reason and I share it as a series of stories. “Why do you call it Sashiko/Boro?”. There isn’t the right answer to this question either. However, since the word carries a lot of stories, it “can” result in someone’s pain. All I ask is your willingness (respect) to read the stories. Once you read them, you will start being careful & mindful. Please, please do not say, “Whatever is fine” to something far from your foreign culture.

配信スタイルを変更して数ヶ月。日本語と英語で分けて、話し相手をご招待して（ご協力頂いて）刺し子について話すようになり、一層議論が深くなったような気がしています。昔は何を話そうか迷いつつ針が進まないことがあって。今は質問が深すぎて、頭フル回転で針が進まないことがあって（笑）昨日の英語の配信も、なかなかに頭フル回転でした。

手仕事って別に特別なものではありません。でも、特別じゃないからと言って何も力がないわけではないんです。「記憶と会話する時間」と英語で表現したのが、我ながら素敵だなぁと思っていて、素敵な文章にできたらと思っています。布と会話する。それはつまり、記憶と会話するという時間なのかもしれません。
