Our Sashiko Story to Your Sashiko Journey

Yes, it was my mother Keiko in the previous post. She is the most humble person

atsushijp, 2021年1月25日

Yes, it was my mother Keiko in the previous post. She is the most humble person I know (low self-esteem), and she really doesn’t speak up. So, most of the stories here are from my (Atsushi’s) view. However, she knows what I am saying out loud and she believes in me. It’s all good.

☆

I have received questions about her teaching in Japan. Keiko & I have quite different teaching styles (there are reasons for that). After offering some workshops, we concluded that Keiko will only offer the Sashiko class when (1) the participants are native (or very fluent) in Japanese and/or (2) Graduate of Atsushi’s workshop. As of now, since I do not have a Japanese student who can teach in English living in Japan, I cannot recommend any workshops in Japan. Please consider taking the Online Sashiko Class offered by @UpcycleStitches. Once the pandemic is over, Keiko will restart offering her workshops. (Many graduates of my workshop enjoyed the visit to Keiko before 2020.)

☆

As of now, we have only 1 type of Sashiko Class, which teaches the “Core” of Sashiko. As you may know, most of the information which other Sashiko Classes may offer are already available for free online. Please start your Sashiko by learning from us. (The photo is from a Sashiko Retreat Camp Keiko offered in 2019).

December is kind of a “busy” month in Japan as well. Many types of “preparation” to many rituals. They say, it is the month when a “master (who usually is very calm)” would run around for the errands. It is quite important to introduce the stories around/behind these rituals, because…

Sashiko Workshop in Lewisburg (PA) is completed. Sakura, our cat, maybe the one

Sashiko Workshop in Lewisburg (PA) is completed. Sakura, our cat, maybe the one who got affected by this journey. Interestingly, she is learning Sashiko, too. She doesn’t scratch the fabric as much as she used to. Sashiko is a form of stitching in “the ordinary”. Her scratch is part of…
