MLK day. I am still learning about his historical achievement, but I respect him & am willing to learn more. In my understanding, his great achievement is not only about making (the flow to) Civil Rights Act., but also the “encouragement” for people (minority/oppressed) to acknowledge the issue while the majority were ignoring it.

As he phrased, I also have a dream. It is “to make Sashiko sustainable” again. It is a small picture because my understanding goes only that far (for now). However, if I were to say a bigger dream, I want everyone to acknowledge their value regardless of their productivity (ability). Instead of judging them based on what they can do, I want them to appreciate who they are. Furthermore, I want us to appreciate “things” around us by realizing who we are. Well… it may be a bit too much, but making Sashiko sustainable can lead me to challenge the bigger goal.

My message is quite simple. Please do not “ignore” something you see/hear/acknowledge. Not knowing is okay. We can all learn. Ignoring something because it is inconvenient to them can change the essence of the culture/practice. If one group thinks they are entitled to “do whatever”, someone need to speak up. In Sashiko, it happens to be me.

本日はキング牧師の誕生日で祝日です。米国に移住して、米国人の娘を持つ父親になり、勉強が続く日々です。日本国内にいた頃は、これほどまで英語圏での刺し子に対して、「日本の刺し子を紹介しなきゃ」と思うことはありませんでした。あるコメントで、「淳は”有色人種（少数派）”になる段階を踏んでいるんだよ」とアドバイスを頂きました。立ち位置によって考え方が変わるのはご都合主義かもしれませんが、移住したのは事実で、何はともあれ「伝えなければ」という使命で動いでいます。前回の英語の長い文章。「結局お金払わないと何も教えないんでしょ？」と言われたので、流石に黙ってはいられなくなりました。いい加減、「（私達が）学んでやるんだから、教えるのが当たり前」という傲慢な人からは開放されたいなと。「お金払ってでも流行にしたい人がいるんだから、無料での情報提供は当たり前でしょ」って批判されたこともあるなぁ（遠い目）。
