Our Sashiko Story to Your Sashiko Journey

Thank you for joining the Live Session last night (Jan.15th). It was a good one

Thank you for joining the Live Session last night (Jan.15th). It was a good one hour of sharing what is Sashiko/Boro for me as a Sashiko artisan. If you were new to the Sashiko Live, please keep reading this account, our website & Youtube. When you need a boost in learning, please consider our Sashiko Class/Workshop.

☆

Before Sashiko became a trend, there were people practicing the Sashiko as we do today. 30 years ago, I was one of those. 20 years ago, I was one who wanted to get out. 10 years ago… I had a paradigm shift in Sashiko. In those years, I was lonely. At least, I felt lonely. Therefore, it is my biggest pleasure to get to know of people who are interested in Sashiko.

☆

The Jacket is not my Sashiko. 14 rising artisans who took my workshop participated joined a project to make one big Sashiko Jacket. It is like having Keiko as a Conductor and asking them to play each instrument – and make one big piece. Everyone’s Stitching is beautiful in their way. They all communicate to the fabric in their way. I hope I am communicating that Sashiko “can” be more than what may be introduced today. The Live Streaming is available on Youtube (https://www.youtube.com/c/SashiCo).

Most of what we do in Sashiko have reason behind – and we call them “Story”. We think(thought) the stories are somewhat “common sense” to many people, and therefore we didn’t realize how interesting the stories are for those who do not practice Sashiko, or for those who are not…

[2 years since the initial request] Ever since I started offering the Sashiko workshop in NYC, I bring some of Keiko’s beautiful Jackets, like Boro (Inspired) Patchwork Jacket and Hitomezashi Sashiko Jacket. Those are for the potential client, and not for me. So, I made a big request to make…

It is such a strange and challenging time. Fear of the unknown. Unexpected changes. Scary numbers (in statistics & finance). We as Keiko and Atsushi cannot sustain our lives by just being Sashiko artisans. So, we sell our “be-in-love” supplies, such as thread – and that supports us and keeps…
