Sashi.Co is a name for a duo of a mother & son & their friends. Keiko lives in Japan, and Atsushi immigrated to the US in 2014. Starting everything from scratch wasn’t easy at all. When I started sharing Sashiko in 2017, I would never have thought of me teaching Sashiko in so many places & online. I am very much looking forward to visiting your city/town whenever the pandemic clears out.

We work hard… however, we aren’t so special. We were very lucky to have so many good people supporting our “dream”. One of the very first students I had taught Sashiko, @sharondenner, is one of those whom I cannot thank enough. As I keep saying, without her & her family, we wouldn’t be here. She worked so hard to learn our Sashiko. Not everyone can learn it quickly and efficiently (but everyone “can” learn). She didn’t give up, and she became such a great Sashiko artisan/artist. I admire her work, and her work always “pushes my back” to move forward.

We are here thanks to her. We can continue sharing Sashiko thanks to you who read this post & try to learn Sashiko from us. Therefore, “I am the past, you are the future” in Sashiko.

「英語で、米国で、時には”ニューヨークで”、刺し子を紹介しています」と書くと、少し現実離れした感じがあるかもしれません。10年前の僕では考えられないことでした。英語で、しかもコロナ以前は1ヶ月に1回のページでワークショップが開催できるなんて、夢にも思っていませんでした。でも形になった。現実になった。今はコロナ禍でリモートになっていますが、これまでの実績は嘘を付きません。

では、Sashi.Coは特別な力があるかと言えば、そんなことはありません。普通の刺し子好きな親子です。ぶっちゃけ、ここまでこれたのは”運が良いから”です。勿論、努力もしてきたし、愚直にできることを精一杯しているのですが、でも多くの方のお力添えがあって、この場所にいます。そんな支援を下さる沢山の方の一番最初に頭に思い浮かべるのが、@sharondenner さんであり、また彼女の刺し子です。

僕の初期のワークショップで、一番運針の習得に苦労された方です。既に手刺繍の形を手が覚えてしまっていて、運針のコツを掴むのがとても大変でした。それでも諦めずに練習し続けてくれて……。彼女の作品を見る度に勇気付けられます。そして、彼女からの提案、支援、そして指導がなければ、刺し子を英語で教えることは（一時的にでも）諦めてしまっているかもしれません。恵子さんとSharonさんが、言語は違うのにずーっと布を挟んで話していたのが、今でも目に浮かびます。一日も早くSharonさんと一緒に日本を楽しめますように。
