I will introduce some of the many “students” who I appreciate for learning from us for this week. They took my workshop/class & now I consider them (rising) Sashiko artisans. Their Sashiko encourage me greatly to keep sharing what Sashiko is.

I used to worry if I could teach Sashiko’s core in English. In my extreme prejudice, I thought “Only the Japanese would be able to understand the core of Sashiko”. Some of my artisans told me the similar message. Well. We were wrong. @scsarchet ‘s Sashiko proved it.

I haven’t met her yet in person. However, she practices Sashiko exactly as I would do after learning it in Online Sashiko Class. How do I know? Her stitches talk to me so. Teaching (Sharing) Sashiko in English & Online is not so easy – I receive more pain than joys by doing so. Her Sashiko always encourages me to Not To Give-Up. If one can receive my message like her, what I do is valuable to the next generation. Check her Sashiko. It is so powerful.

刺し子を英語で教え始めた当初、「英語でどこまで刺し子の本質的な楽しみを伝えられるんだろうか」と不安になりつつ、そしてまた「行間を読むというような日本的な感性がないと刺し子って楽しめないんじゃないか……」と穿った見方すらしていました。実際に刺し子を教えるようになって、それは僕の間違った先入観だったということを学びます。実際に時間を共有し、手を取り合い、泣き笑いながら運針を学んで頂いた先にあったのは、運針の楽しさでした。

度重なるリクエストの上、完成させたオンライン刺し子クラス（英語版）。正直、同様の観点から、「英語で、しかもオンラインで、刺し子の楽しさは伝えられるんだろうか……」と、一層不安になっていました。対面であればしっかりと伝えることができるという自信ゆえの不安でした。その不安を吹き飛ばしてくれた沢山の方の一人が、@scsarchet さんです。運針会の皆様と同様に、まだ僕は彼女と実際に会ったことはありません。画面越しで刺し子をお伝えし、その後一緒に刺し子を楽しんできた”だけ”です。彼女の刺し子は僕の「言い訳する余地」を完全に塗りつぶしてくれる、ザ・刺し子だと思っています。英語だから……、オンラインだから……文化の違いがあるから……、様々な「できないかもしれない」という言い訳をふっ飛ばして、僕を励ましてくれるのです。彼女の刺し子を見る度に、元気が出るんです。あぁ、ヘコタレてる場合じゃないなと。英語圏での刺し子の紹介って、キツイことの方が楽しいことよりも何倍も多いのですが、Sharronさんみたいな方と出会える度に、「まだまだ大丈夫」と思えるのです。
